LOWER FLORIDA KEYS FLATS FISHING REPORT
Sunday, September 19 2010

September is Grand Slam month in the Florida Keys!

Fall is my favorite time of year to flats fish the Florida Keys!

It is off season...Not many tourists in the Keys this time of year.  Most destination anglers are fishing for trout in the west or occupied with hunting season..

The flats are deserted, except for out of work fishing guides, the occasional tailing permit, schools of bones and rolling juvenile tarpon..  Some days we do not see another skiff.

Fished with my guide buddies Derrin and Bob yesterday.

Derrin got the bonefish...

Bob got the permit...

I got the tarpon...

Fun day!

Weather had been a little unsettled for several days earlier this week..  Windy and cloudy with some storm cells mixed in...  The good news is Earl, Fiona and Gustavus never came any were near near Florida..

Yesterday was calm and sunny..  Fished with my buddy Bob with Double Haul Charters..  We started out messing around with some tarpon.. trying to get some good video footage.. Then as the sun got high enough to sight fish, we moved to the flats..  I got some very good shots at permit..   a very poor cast at a school of bonefish (one ate the permit fly any way)   We also found some respectable size tarpon on the flats near the channel edges...  (that had no intrust in the permit fly)

Fished friday morning with my friend Dale Bishop, we found some nice, cooperative tailing bonefish on a hard falling tide..

September is a great all around fishing month here in the Keys..  If the weather is good, the fishing will be too..  It is also the best month for bonefish...
