LOWER FLORIDA KEYS FLATS FISHING REPORT
Wednesday, August 31 2011

It has been cloudy the last several days..  Cloud cover makes it more difficult to sight fish permit and bonefish.  How ever it makes for some very good baby tarpon fishing..

Bonefish tailing!

Summer and fall is the best time to fish for bonefish in the Florida Keys..  Early calm mornings on the right tides, I have been finds schools of bonefish tailing on the shallow flats.

The weather and the fishing has been good.. This video was shot fishing with friends earlier this week

River View Guest House near the Missouri River

I am back from my vacation in Montana. Montana was beautiful! Unfortunately there are no tarpon, permit or bonefish in the rivers.

Florida Keys back country on a flat calm morning: Let the hunt begin!

Weather here in the islands has been warm. Not  bad if you are out on the water. Early morning starts have been productive, especially on flat calm days..,.  Take your pick, rolling baby tarpon or tailing permit and bonefish. By mid afternoon the water temperatures are nearing 90 degrees, which makes it tougher to find bonefish or permit in shallow water. Juvenile tarpon thrive in the warmer temperatures and are eager to eat a well placed surface fly or plug.

Summer and fall is the best time to target bonefish in the lower Florida Keys...

Baby tarpon are lots of fun!

Good number of permit on the flats this time of year as well....

Lobster season is now open in the Florida Keys

Summer is a great time to be in the Keys. It is off season.

Fishing is good.

Very few other boats on the flats.

Water is warm for snorkeling and diving.

Lobster Season is open.

Snow birds have flown north.

Bars and restaurants are not crowded.

Discounted lodging and rental cars.

Currently Dolphin Marina is offering a lodging special.. Stay four nights and get a free rental boat for a day.. That's a deal.. You can go out to reef, catch some dolphin, snorkel Looe Key ,dive for lobster, live bait tarpon in a channel or go out to Picnic Island and drink beer with the locals.
