LOWER FLORIDA KEYS FLATS FISHING REPORT
Saturday, March 12 2016

Fly fishing for tarpon out of the wind

March came in like a lion this year...We had several days of very strong winds. Which meant tucking in leeward shores. We can find juvenile tarpon, redfish, sharks and cudas along these shore lines...

Permt Fishing in the Florida Key

March is considered by many to be the best month for permit...  You want some wind to fish for these spooky fish..  A little chop on the water helps us get closer to the fish with out spooking them.. They will be on the flats until mid April when they head off shore to spawn,,

Now that the water is warming up, bonefish can be found on the flats too...

Fly Fishing for tarpon in Big Pine Key

The last several days, the wind has been easing up...   Temperatures are back in the low  80 degrees. This makes the fish and me very happy. Large migratory tarpon have appeared in the basins and on the flats near deeper channels. This is the Kick Off for tarpon season..
